Carnitine
- FAT METABOLISING - Transports fatty acids into the mitochondria, thus useful in weight control
- CARDIOVASCULAR TONIC - Carnitine is most highly concentrated in the heart, the organ to which fat oxidation is most crucial for energy. Normal heart function depends on adequate concentrations of carnitine.
- FERTILITY - Carnitine is required for sperm count and motility.
- NEUROMUSCULAR SUPPORT - Carnitine levels are often depleted in various neuromuscular disorders.
- EXERCISE PERFORMANCE - Carnitine speeds the oxidation of fats - the primary energy source for aerobic(sustained) exercise.
Dosage
500mg-2000mg daily.
Potential applications
Sports nutrition, weight control, fatty liver congestion, cardiovascular disorders e.g. elevated triglycerides/cholesterol, heart arrhythmias, angina, muscle weakness, kidney dialysis. Vegetarians/vegans may also benefit from increased carnitine intake.
Known contraindications
None known.
Use in conjunction with
Carnitine and coenzyme Q10 work synergistically through supporting fat metabolism and increasing ATP production.
Note
Take away from protein for maximum effect, ideally 30-60 minutes before or after a meal.
