Organic weight-loss advice

I am very interested in buying organic foods for many reasons. I am too apalled at the high prices charged for eating healthier but would like to save as much as possible so do you have any tips. also a friend gave me a recipe for an elixir of cayenne pepper, horse radish, onion, apple cidar vinegar and ginger root. even parts of these ingredients run through a vitamixer and left to sit in a gallon glass jar for 2 weeks is supposed to be the bomb for losing weight. 1 tsp 3x a day is the dosage. what do u think before i buy the ingredients and go the the trouble of making this. do you have a better recipe.
Thanks for your email, Linda.... but your elixir sounds an odd way to go about losing weight. I reckon drop the fads and just eat a sensible and balanced wholesome organic diet. Plenty of organic veggies, a nice amount of whole grains like brown rice and good wholemeal bread, plus some lovely fish and tofu and... well, just a great organic diet! Oh, and of course some gentle exercise — swimming is fabulous for toning the body, also walk to your destination rather than taking the car. And walk up the stairs rather than standing in lifts or on an escalator.
