India and tumeric
Hi Ysanne,
I am a friend of Kirsty Speke and Lisa Williams and I knew you very briefly, years ago, in Brighton. Lisa sent me the link to your website and I felt so pleased to read the wealth of information you have.
After having lived in India for six years where rural farmers are a lot more wiser concerning GM foods, having been duped by the fertiliser companies back in the 80's, I now live in semi-rural New Jersey, where using Organic foods has become more of an economic issue for many average Americans... Believe me, you don't get coupons for Organic apples, but you sure do for Oreo cookies and Campbells soup! Anyway, I just wanted to update your information on the healing properties of tumeric.
Research conducted by Andrew Weil, MD (clinical professor at University of Arizona) shows that the anti-inflammatory properties of tumeric can give protection against Alzheimers disease. "India has the lowest rate of Alzheimers and some experts think that daily consumption of tumeric is a contributing factor."
In fact, Indians often prepare the raw ginger-like root (available in any good India grocery stores, for example in London's Wembley or Southall) cut into thin stips and pickled in lime juice and salt to eat on a daily basis as a condiment with hot rotis.
Anyway, all the best

Wow! Hello Nana! Isn't the internet amazing??!
I really appreciate your comments about turmeric. How incredible that you lived in India for such a long stretch. I'm very aware that India started the modern organic movement and is still at the forefront of organics. I bought turmeric root in Southall but just ate it in chunks, so look forward to trying your suggested lime juice and salt.
I know something about daily life in the US with regard to organic food, because I currently live in Los Angeles. How wonderful that we're both currently in the States (although sooo far away from each other).
Best wishes to you,
Ysanne
