Animal slaughter processes
Hi there, I've been doing research regarding animal rights, and am now questioning my choice to eat organic meats, as I understand that many organically raised animals are slaughtered in the traditional, or mainstream, slaughterhouses, which are not at all humane. I also understand that animals processed under the kosher rules fare no better. Do you have any information about the rules of processing organic meats? I can understand why it is so hard to get this information, as it is not a pleasant topic to cover any way you look at it. However, it is an important consideration.
I appreciate your assistance.

Thanks for your email Debbie. Please be reassured that all organic meat is legally required to come from animals and birds kept to a much higher minimum standard of welfare than non-organic meat. However, you're right that standards of humanity when it comes to the slaughter process vary massively from organic farm to organic farm.
If you value humane slaughtering processes as much as I do, you're best off sourcing your organic meat from one of the many suppliers who do verify their techniques. There are a few farms with excellent records of animal welfare right through to the slaughter listed on our links page. These include Swaddles Green Farm, Graig Farm and Kosher Organic, a company that prides itself on being the only supplier of organic kosher meats in this country.
Best wishes,
Ysanne
